Wave Energy

Green energy continues to evolve, and machines that capture wave energy are very diverse in design. Two such examples were included in the video; here is another example.

The wave energy converter shown is a semi-submerged, articulated structure composed of cylindrical sections linked by hinged joints. These structures can also be aligned in a row, one after another.

The motion induced by waves is resisted by hydraulic rams. These rams pump high-pressure fluid through hydraulic motors via accumulators that smooth out variations in flow and pressure. The hydraulic motors drive electrical generators to produce electricity. Each machine, on average, will produce 25-40% of the full rated output per year. This means each machine can provide sufficient power to meet the electricity demands of approximately 500 homes per year.
